The Des Moines Legacy Foundation is active in the development of local parks, recreation and activities for Des Moines residents of all ages.

2006 ACCOMPLISHMENTS/PROJECTS 

Ø      Solicited funds/grants for Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park, Des Moines Creek Trail and Des Moines Beach Park

Ø      Raised over $37,000 at the fifth annual Bayside Brunch

Ø      Sponsored Soundwaves Summer Concert Series

Ø      Supported Teen Council Activities & training

Ø      Provided Youth Program Scholarships through the Sports Night Auction in May

Ø      Sponsored the Fireworks over Des Moines

Ø      Completed the installation of Mary’s Rose Garden & the Outdoor Patio at Des Moines Activity Center with $17,082 provided by the Legacy Foundation

Ø      Wrote letters of support for state funding for the rehabilitation of the Auditorium in Des Monies Beach Park.

2007 PROJECTS 

Ø      Solicit funds/grants for the Phase II development of Steven J. Underwood Memorial Park

Ø      Support community and school play field safety improvements

Ø      Host  sixth annual Sports Night for Youth Sports Scholarships in May

Ø      Host eighth annual Bayside Brunch with Anthony’s for Senior Center programs and services in November

Ø      Support neighborhood park development & improvements

Ø      Sponsor for the 2007 Fireworks Over Des Moines

Ø      Design and sell Des Moines note cards
